In this image reviewed by the US Military, the sun rises over Camp Delta detention compound which has housed foreign prisoners since 2002, at Guantanamo Bay US Naval Base, June 6, 2008 in Cuba. Although U.S. President Barack Obama pledged in his first executive order last January to close the infamous prison within a year's time, the government has been struggling to try the accused terrorists and to transfer them out ahead of the deadline. Military officials at the prison point to improved living standards and state of the art medical treatment available to detainees, but the facility's international reputation remains tied to the 'enhanced interrogation techniques' such as waterboarding employed under the Bush administration.

This image released by Joint Task Force Guantanamo shows an improvised weapon made from a broken fluorescent light bulb used by detainees in Camp 4 against the guard force at Joint Task Force Guantanamo 19 May, 2006. Guantanamo inmates staged a pretend suicide bid to lure US soldiers into a trap and attack them, the US commander of the 'war on terror' detention camp said Friday. Rear Admiral Harry Harris, commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo, said six prisoners were slightly injured in fighting as US guards put down the unrest on Thursday. Harris said in a telephone press conference from Guantanamo there were two real suicide attempts at the camp on Thursday before the 'ruse' was staged. US guards were carrying out a cell-to-cell search in the camp when 'a detainee was observed preparing to hang himself. A quick reaction force was sent to the compound,' Harris said.
